As you know now, I haven't read the book but if I am to speculate anyway... I assume in the book we see Caveman Jamie more streched out over those 6 years. Aka, Fergus visits Jamie now and again. Here we jumped straight into 6 years later. So they had to tell that story in a shorter time narrative. I am not sure how much longer an added cask would have done but the redcoats were side eyeing Fergus in the show so maybe they thought having them following him made more sense than having them randomly intercept him? Still don't explain the cask.... but maybe they simply don't plan the story so far ahead? We only know book 4 is a sure thing right?

Yes, to me Mary would have come out of left field if she hadn't been prominent in the episode. This way, I got a nice feel for her. And it made her part of the family, that she loved and was protective of them.

I kept wondering where Jenny's daughter was. Maggie was it? She wasn't dead was she?
